modifiy | modifiy to minnesnowta Member 2015-Mar-30 3:46 pm This is pretty cool and though I would contribute. I started scanning the north metro. Most of that area seems to be missing on the maps. I don't expect to find 1 gig, but still think it's good to know what speeds are in the areas. |

GFT | GFT to minnesnowta Member 2015-Apr-1 10:48 am I'm in the north end of Oakdale near Century and Hwy 36. Last night while tooling around the CL website checking to see what they offer at my address I went to the popup live chat window just to see what the guy would say. I asked when fiber would be available here and he said it is now and I could get 60m service. That was a surprise. The website only says I can go up to 40. But I have stopped in at the CL kiosk at the mall recently and the guy there showed me on his computer that I could actually get 100 or gig service here, with a special tech install. Probably is true, finally. We have had several fiber fed DSLAMs in the area for a while and lately I notice some in-ground cable vaults with the accompanying marker post. I think the vaults are fairly new, but must have been in place since at least last fall or summer, as the ground has not been recently disturbed. I guess I just never noticed them. Almost all the CL plant is in-ground here, so its difficult to notice when new things are added. So it appears we have the basic infrastructure in place, just not the last connections to homes. I updated the map referenced a couple posts above to reflect the new stuff I have spotted. |

Did you order it? I would be shoving my wallet into their face so fast a sonic-boom would probably be heard throughout the mall. |

GFT | GFT to minnesnowta Member 2015-Apr-1 1:49 pm I didn't order it, yet. I still have whats left of a 2 yr triple play contract with Comcast to finish which will be done in mid July. I also have to figure out how to get "herself" weaned off cable tv and go to streaming and OTA. That in itself will be a difficult task! I will be doing some serious shopping in the next couple of months to see which way to go for the better deal. I'd like to be able to go internet only and use Ooma or similar, but I am open to adding home phone in a good bundle deal. Comcast is being very competitive on price. The X factor will be how the merger plays out and what we will be looking at after it occurs. |

| Randy G Anon 2015-Apr-3 12:49 am I had my fiber installed today, tomorrow I will take some pics and details of what they did. I'm really confused on the speed tests, if I do the standard speedtest.net most of my local servers that always showed my Comcast speed correct show my fiber speed abysmal actually slower than my Comcast, yet if I go to the CL or even Comcast speed tests, I'm around 900 Mbps up and down. Hard to tell what I really have right now. I was on Comcast Extreme 105 and got 125/25 Mbps, this does feel a bit faster, but could be placebo. My intention since I work at home is to ditch the C2000T, put my Comcast router into bridge and use both into an Asus RT-AC87U router so I have a constant back up, I am 100% dependent on internet for work and need a lot of speed and stability. Mix this with 7 people living in my house who all seem to want to stream Netflix while I'm working, I need the bandwidth. Anyone do anything similar and willing to help me get it up and running? I am semi tech savvy, but networking is not my strong suit. As a side note, the installer who came today said CL had already parted ways with the company who did the initial fiber into my neighborhood. He said they didn't do a lot of the set ups right, even though a line had been run down the middle of my block he had to run my fiber line all the way back to the cross street, about 125 yards or so. He said it should have been able to just be hooked up right behind my house, but they botched it. He also said they are going really fast with this and want to get the market up and running in just a few months, then move on to the next. |

| minnesnowta Member 2015-Apr-3 12:44 pm I scanned a list of addresses generated in the south metro - south of 494. Basically, draw a box using with these two sets of coordinates and that's what I scanned. Once again, I only mapped where gig fiber was available, but I have the full result list I can map if people are interested. |

| zip55414 Anon 2015-Apr-4 6:21 pm so is there any rhyme or reason to the rollout? From the evolution of the maps folks have generated - it just seems like they install randomly a few streets across the city - why are they not doing big blocks of streets at once? Or do you guys think the plan is to go back and expand these initial small clusters? anxious to get gigabit in 55414 |

sandeen | sandeen Member 2015-Apr-4 6:32 pm In my neighborhood, around 55116, they have been doing swaths of 2, 3, or 4 blocks east & west of Fairview, spanning 5 or 6 blocks north to south. So it's in big blocks, but also with big blocks missing in between. Probably has to do with where there's a capable telco box? I don't really know... |

efc | efc to minnesnowta Member 2015-Apr-6 4:08 pm I live in 55105 and would like to confirm reports of fiber being pulled in the neighborhood. If you're not near one of the existing points, it'll be good to get it on there! You can PM me your general address (ex, 1700-1900 block of hennepin, 55419) or whatever to keep it anonymous. |

I just registered for an official account so I will try to figure out. Anyway I did update one of the other maps with a point showing the node box on the end of my clock. I'm at 52nd and Knox Ave N in Minneapolis and the gigabit is working out very nicely, I had some slow downs on the comcast connection due to the number of users, but everything is humming along great now, very exciting! |

Maybe try a shorter cable and see if you can get over 900? Not that 600/825 is anything to scoff at! Cool - I have a friend who lives in your area and would likely sign up for it. BlueC | BlueC to Randy G Member 2015-Apr-7 4:17 pm 16ms to Chicago seems a bit much for fiber. Should be half that, at the very least sub-10ms coming from Minneapolis. I wonder if CenturyLink is doing some form of packet queuing for their residential fiber customers. |
