Brunswick Stew is one of my all-time favorite soups. I have a few Brunswick Stew recipes on the blog, and I have to say this is the best one! OMG! Chicken, smoked sausage, pork, corn, tomatoes and lima beans simmered in a homemade tomato BBQ sauce. SO good! I ate this stew three days in a row. I just couldn’t get enough of it. Serve this with some homemade cornbread and you are set!
How to Make Brunswick Stew
This stew is very simple to make. Start with browning some smoked sausage in a Dutch oven. Add the remaining ingredients – pulled pork, chicken, onion, corn, tomatoes, and lima beans simmered in chicken broth, tomato sauce, vinegar, ketchup, brown sugar, and hot sauce. Bring the soup to a boil and simmer for about 30 minutes to an hour. SO easy!
- I used rotisserie chicken for the cooked chicken in this Brunswick Stew. It makes prep super quick!
- For the pulled pork, I used Costco pulled pork. You can use any cooked pulled pork you like. With or without BBQ sauce – either is fine.
- If you are making this stew after the holidays, feel free to swap the chicken for some leftover turkey. This is a delicious way to use up some of that leftover turkey!
- Feel free to add some diced potatoes to the stew.
- Can Brunswick Stew be made in the slow cooker? Yes! You can make this in the crockpot instead of the stovetop. Brown the sausage and dump everything in the crockpot. Cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours. You can also cook it on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours.
- Can Brunswick Stew be frozen? Yes! The leftovers make a great freezer meal. Cook the stew and let it cool. Pour the soup into some gallon freezer ziplock bags and freeze. When you are ready to serve the soup, thaw and reheat in the microwave or on the stove.
- Is Brunswick Stew gluten-free? Yes! This stew is gluten-free. Make sure to use a gluten-free smoked sausage such as Hillshire Farms.
